Although I believe that sometimes life surprises us in a good way, my experience is that miracles rarely happen. Most of the times, things that appears miraculous or ridiculously easy are not.
Nowadays, everything seems to occur overnight. If you look only at the outwards signs it can seem that way. But when you take a closer peak you might pick up some more clues into how this success happened and why it appears easy and flawless.
An athlete that wins a gold medal has done thousand of hours of training. A company that starts selling its products like crazy might have been on the verge of closing right before its overnight success. A chef that wins an international competition has several burns on his hands and a lot of failed recipes. An event that goes smoothly might require months of planning.
It’s easy to look only at the visible part of success : the medal, the sales, the prize, the big finale. But what if we focused on the invisible work that lead to this?
What if instead of celebrating just that tip of the iceberg we paid more attention to all the hours that were invested in perfecting the craft, all the “failures”, all the back and forth, all the work. And celebrate along the way.
Consistency is the key in doing work that appears, at one point, easy.
Consistency in recognizing all the efforts, the time, the dedication, the sweat, the tears ,is also required.
By focusing on the miracle or the end result we lose so many opportunities to celebrate all the littles wins on the bumpy road that gave us that smooth end.
What consistent thing have you been doing that you could celebrate today?
